AndNowUKnow: Taylor Farms, Domex Superfresh, Kingsburg Orchards - Shop Talk

Taylor Farms is introducing an innovative mobile site, specifically designed around its new chopped salad line. The creation launches January 31st, and can be accessed through the company's QR code- found on the products' packaging- as well as on store print materials and Facebook. The site is hosting a salad sweepstakes to kick off the launch, offering the chance to win an elliptical trainer. Christina Calcagno, Sales and Marketing, states, "The mobile site allows consumers to have quick access to recipes for fresh, simple, and flavorful meals. We will continue to add recipes so consumers can always find fresh ideas from Taylor Farms." Domex Superfresh Growers, with the help of a generous donation of trees from Costco Wholesale, assisted Madison House this past December, with the task of distributing a little Christmas spirit. Domex called for donations in the form of sponsorships for the families served by the youth center, who were in need of a Christmas tree. Domex was able to raise over $1800 dollars and donate 45 trees to the families. The kids of Madison House organized a Christmas tree lot to sell trees and deliver them to the sponsored families. Kingsburg Orchards is announcing a 45000 square foot expansion to its Cornerstone roadside packing and shipping facility. Red Line inventory management systems, a barcode system for tracking and staging the products, will be installed throughout the building. Cornerstone has also added more members to their shipping crew ...

North Star Orchard-2010 Oakmont farmers market-
Apr 09, 2012
North Star Orchard is a small farm specializing in unique varieties of high-quality fruit. We sell all of our products directly to consumers at area producer-only farmers' markets and through our CSA; we do not sell through wholesale channels. Our business is known for its abundance of apple varieties (now more than 70), unique Asian pears, and the high standard of quality in all of our fruits and vegetables. We have always been interested in both growing unusual varieties of fruit and vegetables and in using the newest ideas in training and trellising. We are concerned about the environment, and work hard to farm in a manner as sustainable and safe as possible. We focus on varieties that are not traditionally grown. Our apples are either antique or heritage varieties, or newer disease-resistant varieties. Our Asian pears are unique in the fact that very few are grown at all on the East coast of the USA. Plus, they are tended with the utmost care, so we can pick and sell Asian pears that are at their peak of flavor and crunch. We have a large variety of both European and Asian plums, offering a wide range of sizes, colors, and flavors. We grow many heritage vegetable varieties, and have started saving seeds of those varieties that are particularly interesting or hard to find. We enjoy very much our interaction with customers at the markets and with members of our CSA. It gives us a lot of satisfaction to have a real connection with the people who are eating the food that ...

Huber's Starlight Distillery Orchard & Winery Indiana Food Artisan
Apr 26, 2011
When Simon Huber immigrated to southern Indiana from Baden-Baden, Germany in 1843, he brought with him a wealth of knowledge about farming, fruit growing, and wine making along with a strong work ethic and love of family. Today, Hubers Orchard and Winery is Indianas largest estate bottled winery and has expanded from its original 80 acres to 550 acres with, among the many on-site attractions, a farm market, banquet facility for 1200, childrens farm park, ice cream shop, distillery, bakery, cheese shop, and café. Huber Winery, whose first commercial wine was made from strawberries grown on the farm, offers a large selection of dry, semi-dry, semi-sweet, and sweet wines; ports, and infusions. Products made at Hubers Starlight Distillery—the first distillery to be established in Indiana--include brandy and grappa. Fruit Soups for Breakfast!
Here is a recipe for delicious creamy peach soup--actually there are four recipes here, differing mostly in their degree of difficulty. If you have the time, the one made with fresh peaches is the best. The next recipe substitutes in frozen peaches, which cuts waaay down on preparation time. The third variation is made with canned peaches, and easiest of all is the fourth--it uses peach pie filling.
